My hols start on the 26th August till the 18th September...
But I have no place to go... and very limited budget to work with. My coursemates (practically ALL of them) signed up to join Kelana Convoy, but I wasn't too keen on the idea of visiting 8 countries in 16 days, so didn't. That also means that the Student Village here will be largely unoccupied.
Me scared to live alone for 3 weeks... *whimper*
Plus its not often that I get breaks. A bit wasted lorr, if 3 weeks hols also stay in Plymouth.
I wanted to go backpacking to Egypt, but friends have warned me not to, not very safe for a girl to travel alone there it seems...
I'd go to London, but Malaysian Hall only allows for 2 days stay maximum... and the friends I usually stay with are back in Malaysia.
Not forgetting that I only have a budget of £200-£250 to spend on holidays, which frankly ain't much, if you take into account the travelling expenses, accommodation, food, etc...
So can anyone suggest somewhere I can go that won't cost an arm, leg or any other body part, speaks English and is safe for a 5" nothing girl to travel alone, armed with nothing except a power packed scream and kitten heels to beat up big bullies?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
thailand thailand thailand thailand?
haha
Or amsterdam is always a train ride away, no?
er..Scotland? nearby..cuti cuti UK. there's some kind of hop on hop off bus tour thingy..blue banana i think.
Actually local holidays in the UK are scandalously expensive. It's far more economical to visit Asia or even mainland Europe, but yalah, flights very mahal.
Maybe you can go to Dublin or Edinburgh on a budget airline, or take a Megabus to somewhere rural and just pet sheep or something for a week.
Alternatively, check out lastminute.com - it's posible to get some good deals there.
for 250 GBP, you could visit quite a few places around the UK. around Plymouth (I assume you're there?) there is Glastonbury (where the Holy Grail is said to be), Wells (famous for its cathedral), Cornwall (Eden project + stunning countryside). A short train ride away are the cities of Bristol and Bath. book the 3 day advance tickets, and you could always stay the night at the YHA. Bath and Bristol are safe places, as always stick to the 'safer' touristy areas.
Actually, all you need to do is to book 7 day advanced tickets, combined with a Youth Rail pass and hostels the most of the UK is easily affordable within your budget.
Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands.
vincentt: heh, ah well...
lainie: Haha, if only I could! I wanna go Thailand one day... Planning to to Amsterdam with friends another time, so thats on hold. =) but thanks for the suggestion.
spot: yeah lorr.. possibly going to Scotland, look up some friends and kacau my cousin there. *IF* she's back from Penang.
I would lari back to Malaysia if I had longer hols, but then again, considering the haze... ah well.
jay: pet sheep? aiyoh my backyard got sheep la sayang. dartmoor national park is 30 minutes away, and not just sheep, got ponies and cows also! i wanna go somewhere city-ish. too sien here la. i really ought to be living in london. sigh.
patrick: thanks for the suggestions! I'm thinking Bath-London-Edinbrough-Aberdeen, but still in the midst of calculating budget. Got a few old friends in studying in Bath, will prolly drop by and say hi lorr..
differ: will prolly visit Inverness while i'm in Scotland.

Yeay! Hehe... not my egg tarts la, Snowie's egg tarts. Very sanfu to make one you know! So better appreciate!
Eh, can write stuff for Star from over here ah? Damn coincidence man, I've actually been thinking about doing some freelance writing. Today only I was looking at writers' magazines in Borders. Tell me more sistah.
And cannot lah, you visit me my anonymity all pecah lubang.
Eh, how come I talk like this already one?
jay - maybe if all the time she were there, you wore a bandana around your eyes ala the black band of anonymity??
yummy egg tarts, yummy egg tarts! my colleagues loved it too. yeah i had to make them, but i enjoy that... and it was YOUR recipe! btw, IS there supposed to be sugar in the pastry? i left it out cos din know when to put in.
good luck with the writing!
snowie
Jay: Aiyoh, I ingatkan wanna bake something to pass to you when I go London... And interview you for the article, actually. Heh. Aiyaiks, nevermind lorr.
Hrm, I'm not too sure as to how you can go about writing for The Star. I was in the Bright Roving Annoying Teens programme and we've got a pullout where our contributions are printed.
But you can ask one of the editors in the Star (assuming you know some) about maybe sending in some articles first, and then seeing if s/he likes it enough to let you be a stringer..
Or you can write for Going Places, the Mas in-flight magazine. You need some samples of your work though. Email me if you wanna know more. Or msn. ^_^
Snowie: Yes, the sugar is supposed to be in the pastry, sorry for not being clear about it. Heh. No sugar, no melt-in-your-mouth crispy pastry.
The lemon juice is supposed to prevent gluten from forming and make the pastry flaky, because pastry can't be handled too much or it'll form gluten or something that makes it a bit hard lorr.. got that tip from one of the baking websites when my first batch came out a bit tough. Hehe.
I'm terribly nerdy and perfectionist, so before I cook something, I research about it and then looksee all the recipes to get the feel of it, take note of the basics (thats the ingredients ALL the recipes have in common), pick out the most convenient ones, add here and there, kacau the measurements a bit, and voila, out comes perfect product, Lady V style.
^_^
My place very boring marr.. everyday chase squirrels with my camera. I kid you not.
thanks for the info, looks like i'll have to make it again, with the sugar this time... in the interests of science, of course ;)
and LOL at the squirrel chasing! will look forward to pics of that being posted...
